SEO, THE NEW GOLD MINE FOR SMALL & MEDIUM BUSINESSES IN NIGERIA

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

In this blog, we will discuss how businesses in Nigeria are ripping much in making their business / website visible online. How Search Engine Optimization (SEO) has increase their business revenue and other benefits. Also, why some people are not doing it for now.

There has never been a more a crucial time for a business person in Nigeria to maximize its online presence in the savviest, most effective way possible than now.
Gone are the days when every interested customer/ parents will visit your school or business premises before making a choice to patronize your business or seek for ad.

As many Nigerians now use smart phones and computers with internet facility to do their business in Nigeria and outside the country as well.

Search engine optimization, or SEO, for business is not a new thing, but may be new to some Nigerians. It has been part of the landscape now for many years. The fact of the matter is that SEO is playing an increasingly larger part in the day to day management of business websites.

What Is SEO? The term Search Engine Optimization describes a diverse set of activities that you can perform to increase the amount of targeted traffic that comes to your website from search engines. This includes things you do to your site itself, such as making changes to your text and HTML code. It also includes communicating directly with the search engines, or pursuing other sources of traffic by making requests for listings or links. SEO is a technique which helps search engines find and rank your site higher than the millions of other sites in response to a search query. SEO thus helps you get traffic from search engines.

We have made more and more clients through our website because it’s ranking high in major search in engines. So also, some of our clients have testified the unprecedented result they have had from SEO. When we (Meredox Ltd) started new, we were going to one school or the other, one company or the other to tell them about our products and services and it takes much talk, meetings, transportations, time and more to win a client.

Sometimes, people you meet on one-on-one marketing may not have heard about your products or services, some may not even have interested in your products and services, but they will ask you to wait for two or more hours.
Some managers will ask you to come to them another day after you may have spent days and weeks trying to meet them.

There are so many schools with great learning facilities, environments, teachers and values, but if your school is not known, you essentially don’t exist. There are many professional and businesses that have what many Nigerians are looking for, but because they are not known, they don’t exist rather; people go to the quacks and wrong people to get the service or the product.

More than 50% of all web site traffic comes from the search engines and directories. In Nigeria, many will just call a website designer to design a website for their business and that is all.

When they pay for domain and hosting for few years and they are not gaining anything from the website, they will stop renewing the site.

That you design a website is a good step, but it does not really mean potential clients we see your services or products online.

There is what we call un-ethical SEO practices. This is the wrong way of optimizing your business website. In fact, major search engines like Google and Yahoo will actually penalize your site for using that method.  Only manual “search engine optimization and positioning” efforts end up working.  This is because these efforts are custom tailored to your school site and are designed to give the engines what they want and need in order to find your site among other competitors in your state or country.
